Son of Charles and Ellen Rebecca Richardson of 32 Sixth Avenue Forest Town.

Enlisted 9th September 1914, prior to which he worked at Mansfield Colliery.

He answered the call at the big recruitment meeting held at Forest Town, and after training at Newark, Harpenden and Braintree he went to France on 25th February 1915. He went into the trenches for the first time on Palm Sunday 1915.

Whilst in a Front Line trench, he was killed by a rifle grenade.

His brother Private Alick Richardson, later wounded on the 1st July 1916 whilst taking part in the big offensive, opened the letter which contained news of his death.

Husband of Cissie Roberts of 9 Hospital Terrace, Mansfield Woodhouse.

Enlisted for army service in November 1914, 3 months after the outbreak of war. He received training at Lichfield before being drafted to the front in July 1915.

At the Front he was attached to 177th Field Company Royal Engineers and it was whilst attached to them that he was wounded by a high explosive shell which destroyed the sight in one eye.

Due to the seriousness of his wounds, he was sent to the 24th General Hospital which was stationed at Etaples in France. Due to this only being a base hospital and not having the treatment he required available, he was then transferred to the Dublin Castle Hospital in Ireland. After spending 2 months undergoing treatment he was then taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital which was based in Dublin. Here he underwent 9 operations and was attended to by 4 specialists.

After the operations he contracted Meningitis which led to his death.

Son of Joseph and Isabella Shawcroft: Husband of Jane E Howell (Formerly Shawcroft) of 62 Station Street, Mansfield Woodhouse
A few years before the war Frederick left Mansfield Woodhouse and went to live in Brodsworth, Yorkshire. Whilst living there, he became a deputy at the Colliery.Before he left the village he was connected with the Congregational Church and was the secretary of the Sunday School. He enlisted in 1915 into the York and Lancaster Regiment, and went with his Regiment to Gallipoli, Turkey.
In November 1916, Frederick received wounds to his left arm. He was taken to Hospital in Bristol and after undergoing treatment here he returned to his unit but was subsequently given a temporary discharge from the Army. He returned to Brodsworth to resume his civilian occupation, but could only work for 3 weeks before his wounds began to get worse. Leading up to the weeks that he died he suffered great agony and a few days before he died he became completely blind.

He left a widow and a child

At his funeral, he was given full military honours
