The names for the memorial were gathered by the Mansfield Woodhouse Urban District Council sending a flyer to each household in the villages of Mansfield Woodhouse, Forest Town and Pleasley Vale.
The forms asked for basic service details, Name, Regiment, Number, Rank and next of kin, if known. These were sent out on 8th December 1921 and were collected on Friday 16th and Saturday 17th December 1921. It is easy to see how mens named were omitted from the final memorial.
The Honourable Secretary of the Urban District Council put his name to the flyer, this being A Mayhall who saw service in the Great War as a Second Lieutenant with the Royal Garrison Artillery, so this was, no doubt, something which he would have approved of greatly
